Give peace a chance, let us have more of it
The youth of the country must come forward and act so that peace and prosperity prevails in the country. Education can play an important role in cultivating youth to spread peace all over.
HEAR THE slogans of mother, who lost her only son in a blast! You can hear the cries of children, who are deprived of their childhood in the factories and farms. These are cries of women fighting for their rights; these are the cries of the unemployed who are in search of fulfillment!

Feelings of fear, hatred and violence are all around. We see and hear of attacks, blasts, killing and destruction. Terror in the form of kidnapping innocent people for ransom, or hijack of aeroplanes and blasts is often the air.  Every person in this country be it a child, young or old feels this insecurity and all are at the risk of this menace even if we talk proudly of India shining or developing India.

Violence is the biggest enemy faced by India, which has celebrated the diamond jubilee of its independence. Sicty years ago Rabindranath Tagore prayed “where the mind is without fear and the heads held high….where the world is not broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls…where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection…let my country awake".

But how could we hold our heads high without fear when horrors of violence, blood shed, cruelty and destruction to humans and environment is a serious threat to our community today?

It’s unfortunate that the state of affairs in our world with regard to value system is on the decline. Educational institutions are still considered a temple of learning where the best ideals and values would be coded into a child’s mind and heart to help build a better India. These institutions still play a leading role in re-orienting youth with an inclusive and liberal education where fanaticism should give away for respect for every religion, people and environment, our much praised diverse culture can be preserved by bond of love and respect for another.

Until and unless each individual person takes responsibility for the welfare of another we can never dream of environment of brotherly and sisterly concern, where we can relax under the clean sky, listening to the sweet chirping of birds in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. We need a spirituality of peace and harmony to unite us into a great nation.

Teachings of all the religions guides us towards courage and simplicity, compassion, non violence, the enterprising spirit, the perseverance, and self sacrificing love can provide the constituent elements of the spirituality of peace and harmony that India needs today. Building a great new India of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity on the principles of patience, prayer, courage and non violence.

The message of former president APJ Abdul Kalam to the youth of India becomes relevant here that all the youth of our country should have an indomitable spirit which does not allow problems to become masters of their lives but become masters of problems, defeat them and succeed.

Ignited minds of the young are the greater resource of our nation. When these work with an indomitable spirit, a prosperous, happy and safe India can be assured. Students can become ambassadors of peace as enlightened citizens as their education helps them to discover lasting values so that they do not merely cling to the formulae or repeat slogans but help to break down the barriers.

"If there is righteousness in the heart.  There will be beauty in the character.  If there is beauty in the character. There will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home. There will be order in the nation.  If there is order in the nation. There will be peace in the world."
