Global Hunger Index 2016: 15.2% Indians undernourished
While India has improved itself in various parameters over the past few years, but still the hunger levels are alarming in the country. In a latest survey done by the International Food Policy Research Institute's (IFPRI), India ranked 97th out of 118 countries in Global Hunger Index (GHI), 2016. India is followed by Pakistan which is at 107th Rank.
India was positioned at 80 out of 104 countries the previous year. Other neighboring nations such as China (29), Nepal (72), Myanmar (75), Sri Lanka (84) and Bangladesh (90) have improved their respective rankings significantly.

P K Joshi, IFPRI director for South Asia backed India saying, in 2013, India's position was shown alarming in GHI, but then it has shown some improvement.

"India is slated to become the world's most populous nation in just six years, and it's crucial that we meet this milestone with a record of ensuring that the expected 1.4 billion Indians have enough nutritious food to lead healthy and successful lives....India is making tremendous progress - but we have significant challenges ahead," said Joshi.

But, as per reports, despite the improvement in score, which actually reflects an improvement in hunger and nutrition, still India have 'moderate' to 'alarming' hunger scores till 2030.
