GENERAL MOTORS announced on Tuesday that the new Chevy Volt will be priced at $41,000 for a base model and $44,600 for a fully-loaded. G.M. had kept the Volt’s price a secret since unveiling the model as a concept more than three years ago. The GM's Chevy Volt will run on battery power but it has also a small gas engine to generate electricity.
GM begins taking orders of Chevy Volt on its web site from today and said the first Volts will roll on driveways by year’s end. About 600 Chevrolet dealers from California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Washington, D.C., and Austin, Texas will sale the car.
The electrically-powered new Chevy Volt can be owned for $350 a month on a 36-month lease, with a $2,500 down payment.
General Motors announced two weeks ago that the battery in the Volt would come with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty. GM said the Volt combines the environmental benefits of an electric vehicle with the practicality of a conventional car.
The base model of Chevy Volt car will include eight air bags and five years of OnStar navigation, roadside assistance and crash response service, and a 120-volt charge cord. The $44,600 fully-loaded will include leather heated seats, graphic door trim and a higher grade paint.
