Go for development that promotes prosperity, economic opportunity, social well-being, and protection of the environment: UN on World Development Information Day
Proclaimed by UN, World Development Information Day is observed each year on October 24, to draw the attention of the world to development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation to solve them.

According to a UN General Assembly Resolution, "Information and communications technologies have the potential to provide new solutions to development challenges, particularly in the context of globalization, and can foster economic growth, competitiveness, access to information and knowledge, poverty eradication and social inclusion."

The General Assembly in 1972 decided that the date for the Day should coincide with United Nations Day, 24 October, which was also the date of the adoption of the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade.

The observance aims at improving the dissemination of information and the mobilization of public opinion, particularly among young people to promote sustainable development and bat to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion.

“The global understanding of development has changed over the years, and countries now have agreed that sustainable development – development that promotes prosperity and economic opportunity, greater social well-being, and protection of the environment – offers the best path forward for improving the lives of people everywhere,” writes UN on its website.
