AFTER A fierce opposition from the owners of tourist taxis and buses, the Goa government finally decided to partially roll back the steep hike in the permit fees for the commercial vehicles.
The government had hiked the permit fee for all-Goa tourist taxis from Rs 150 to Rs 1,000 and for all-India tourist taxis from Rs 150 to Rs 5000 while the fee for all- Goa tourist buses was raised from Rs 300 to Rs 4000 and that for all India tourist buses was hiked from Rs 300 to Rs 5000. The hike for all Goa maxi cabs was raised from Rs 300 to 2,000 while that for all India maxi cabs was hiked from Rs 300 to Rs 3,000.Following the steep hikes, the taxi and bus owners had planned a mass agitation on December 27. The general secretary of the all Goa private bus owners association expressed happiness over the roll back in permit fees and permit renewal fees.As per the revised rates, the taxi permit fee has been brought down to Rs 900 from present Rs 5000 while for buses it has been reduced to Rs 900 from Rs 1500.Revised Permit Fee Plan, tourist taxi service at Rs 500, all India taxi service at Rs 900, tourist bus service at Rs 2,500, all India service at Rs 3,500, auto rikshaw service at Rs 250, stage carriage service at Rs 900 and motorcycle at Rs 120.
