Goans launch benevolent fund in Qatar
With the objective is to reach out to the financially unfortunate brethren both in Qatar and Goa, DGSC has launched a benevolent fund, which was formally launched on the occasion of the Konkani (tiatr) 'Soglleank Nomoskar'.
With an objective to reach out to the financially unfortunate brethren both in Qatar and Goa, Doha Goans Sports Club (DGSC) has launched a benevolent  fund to reach out to the financially unfortunate brethren both in Qatar and Goa.

The fund was formally launched recently, on the occasion of the Konkani (tiatr) ‘Soglleank Nomoskar’ at the Al Ghazal Club in Doha Qatar.

“There are times when people are in dire straits and don’t know where to knock for help. The club will set aside an amount for this purpose, it is our desire to also get the community involved in such humanitarian task and we will continue to conduct events to support this cause,” said the DGSC in their press release.

“After deep introspection and considering many difficulties and problems faced by our Goan brethren in the past, Doha Goans Sports Club came forward to introduce a special and completely separate fund ie,‘benevolent fund’ to help all needy Goans which will be decided case by case ie, solely those facing problems specially at the time of deportation, need of costly  medicines/operation and those who really can’t afford etc,” the press note adds.

On the occasion, the 19-members troupe which arrived from Goa performed meticulously and displayed enormous skills of superb acting and singing accompanied by colossal humour and comedy with a moral, all of which kept the 800-odd Konkani loving spectators spell bound
during the four hours entertainment programme.

The program which was selected and executed by the club’s PRO and director of Cultural and Social Affairs, Mauricio Pereira, along with the club’s committee members, commenced with the unveiling of the club’s banner with logo by Rev Fr Anand Castelino who was also the chief guest. That was a touching moment for many Goan residents who well remembered the good old times when the club had excelled in conducting various social, cultural and sports events. Fr Anand
spoke on the need to preserve love and unity in the community and underlined the importance of keeping alive the Konkani language.

The president, Ambrosio Dias, in his welcome address briefly explained the need of reviving DGSC which, under circumstances, was forced into silent mode and had deprived the Goan community of leisure diversions since 2003. During the show prizes to lucky winners were distributed and the club also announced future social, cultural and sports events.

The show was jointly and aptly compered by DGSC committee members, Mario D'Costa and Paul Fernandes. Mathew Estrocio proposed the vote of thanks. The very fact that the spectators were still sitting when the final curtain went down only spoke of the total enjoyment of the show organised by DGSC. The Konkani tiatr was the first major activity for DGSC which was revived three months back.
