God is not the goal but the rest
You think that you are running towards the goal, but God cannot be a goal, because God is your rest, your home. Goal is where you have to reach; Home is where you should be. That is why God remains so elusive to commercial minds of the materialists

HAVE YOU ever wondered why so many things we desired in life never seem to come true? Why? Because, desires are like shadows. And a shadow is that which is not. It is either the not that is chasing you or you are chasing the not. Whatever be the case, one thing is certain: you are deluded. You cannot wish away or cut a shadow with a sword because it is not material. Shadow is immaterial.

In order to get rid of the delusion, which one of the two would you choose – to cut or to wish away? The answer is: Neither! Because both involve running: one, active; and the other, passive; but a state of unrest all right. Led by desires you run. If you have to bring tomorrow closer, you have no other option but to run.

You think that you are running towards the goal, but God cannot be a goal, because God is your rest, your home. Goal is where you have to reach; Home is where you should be. That is why God remains so elusive to the commercial minds of the materialists. He is a purpose! He is not somewhere to be reached at the end of our lives, but a purpose to be lived with all through our lives. Do you see the difference?

Swami Vivekananda says, “Arise, awake and stop not until the goal is reached.” But I say, “Arise, awake and stop. The goal is already reached.” When you run, the shadow also runs. Just stop, see and recognise the shadow as a shadow in its reality. Then the shadow falls. The false always falls. Its existence comes to a naught. Only then does one realise the foolishness of it all - that the shadow was just the presence of an absence, created by our becoming an obstruction to the light of God.
