SYMBIOSIS INSTITUTE of Media & Communication in association with the Leo District 322B1, the youth wing of the Lion’s Club, organised a plantation drive on November 1 morning, at the Lion’s Safari Park, Ravindra Sarovar, Kolkata. Youngsters with a vision of combating global warming and saving our planet from oblivion’s curse conducted the plantation.

“The stake taken is the requirement of society. In today’s insecure times, global warming is going up at an alarming rate. It needs to be checked immediately otherwise doom’s day is not far. We are glad to see young students have come forward to fight global warming. We have always supported such acts and shall always do so,” said Lion Kailash Khandelwal, the district governor of Lion’s Club.

About 200 students from various schools and colleges had gathered on the auspicious occasion and planted saplings. Students from Loreto Day School, Sealdah, Ballygunge Shiksha Sadan, Modern High, Loreto House, Loreto College, Ashutosh College, Jadavpur University, St. Xavier’s and St. James had assembled for the plantation drive.

“It is always nice to be green. For Symbiosis it’s an endeavour to contribute to the youth and the society at large. Tree plantation is an absolutely significant act,” said Professor Shyama Dutta, a media faculty of Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication.

The day was concluded by a street play conducted by the ‘Hypokrites’. They imparted a vital message through their act, which left a deep impact on the crowd. Their act signified the importance of proper information in our society, and how often information is manipulated and misused.

“It felt good to see so many students joining us in an attempt to make Kolkata a greener city,” said Abhishek Dutta Roy, a media student of Symbiosis.
