'Golmaal Returns' with a bang
'Golmaal Returns' is a pure entertainer. The film hardly follows a story line, but gags and slapstick humour making the movie worth watching. Performances by Tushshar Kapoor and Sherays Talpade are also worth the money.
FIRST THING first, is Golmaal Returns as entertaining as Golmaal? Well yes and no. The reason is that the comedy is not as good as Golmaal; yet the slapstick and sometimes below the belt humour is good enough to keep the audiences in splits.

Ajay Devgan is married to Kareena Kapoor. His younger sister Amrita Arora and Kareena’s younger brother Tushshar Kapoor lives with them. While Amrita is in love with a cop Arshad Warsi; Tushshar falls for a girl, Anjana Sukhani.

The problem is that Kareena is brought up on the staple diet of tele-serials cooked-up by Ekta Kapoor and is always prying on her husband with a roving eye.
One night, Ajay saves Celina Jaitley from goons. In the process, his car breaks down and he has to spend a night with Celina on a yatch (though nothing happens). To conceal this story from his ever-suspicious wife, Ajay lies that he was with his friend Anthony Gonsalves; when in reality he has no friend named Anthony Gonsalves.

Now Kareena wants to meet Anthony; a new recruit Shreyas Talpade agrees to be Anthony Gonsalves, if he is given a job in Ajay’s company. Shreyas is introduced to Kareena and the truth is concealed. Or is it?

For, the real Anthony Gonsalves (Vrijesh Hirjee) turns up.

To conceal this lie, the gang (Ajay, Tushshar and Shreyas) have to speak more lies - more so because Arshad is after Ajay’s life.

Frankly speaking, such films don’t have much in terms of storyline; it is the gags and the performances that keep the show afloat and over here the gags are just fine and the performances good.

What rocks the movie:

Tushshar’s performance, if he was first-rate in Golmaal; here he goes only notches further. It is an award-winning performance. Shreyas’s performance - he is a very fine actor. Iqbal and Welcome to Sajjanpur were tailor-made roles. Over here, his role is not tailor-made; yet he stands out. The first half is absolutely smooth-sailing. In fact you don’t even realise the interval-point.

What chucks the movie:

Ajay Devgan, though he has performed well, the age has started showing. The second half, could have been crisper and the climax, a lot better.

Verdict:

Leave the logics or anything, like artsy brain-frame behind and you are sure going to like Golmaal Returns.
