THE LENT period starts with Ash Wednesday and ends with Good Friday. This year Good Friday is on 2nd April. The day is celebrated to mark the Crucification of Jesus Christ.
Jesus preached the need to prayer and fasting to get rid of the evil in oneself. Many Christians fast or make sacrifices to follow the example of God, in this period. On this day Jesus was arrested by the Clergyman and crucified. Though Bible never believed in marking a certain day for Christ's death rather it has given Christians freedom to be fully convinced in their own minds. And this conviction is re-enforced when they eat bread dipped in wine.
Some believe that the word 'Good' actually refers to 'God'. It is a common belief that what God did was for the Good of mankind so the day is referd as Good Friday. On the evenings, Christians remember Christ's death through Hymns and doing service. There is also thankgiving paryer held for thanking God for the sacrifice he did for mankind. In varoius parts of the world people wear black clothes and mour the death of God.
