Good Friday Passion Liturgy in Vatican City focuses on unshakable Christian optimism
At the Passion Liturgy in St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City on Good Friday, April 14, presided over by Pope Francis, the Preacher of the Papal Household, Fr Raniero Cantalamessa, OFM Cap, preached the sermon centred on the Cross of Christ as the only hope of the world, reported Vatican News.

The sermon had the message that 'the Cross' stood for the world by giving the 'meaning to all the suffering that has been, that is, and that will be in human history.'

The Preacher of the Papal Household described the moment of Christ's death apocalyptically and said that the same would 'happen in the heart of a person who reads and meditates on the Passion of Christ.'

Fr Raniero Cantalamessa said that the death of Jesus had changed forever the very face of death and gave it a new meaning to meditate on it. After the sacrifice of Christ, more intense than the heart of darkness, a heart of light beats in the world, he stated.

He urged for an 'unshakeable Christian optimism' and hope that 'all shall be well'. He also called for not giving up hope since no sin was too great not to be forgiven.

The full text of the sermon has been released and available on the official website.
