Google and others pay homage to Delhi brave heart with a candle
To mourn the 23-year-old Delhi brave heart, memorials and candle light vigils are taking place all over the globe. The girl, affectionately named 'Damini, 'Nirbhaya', and 'Amanat', lost her life after dying from serious medical complications due to a brutal gang-rape. The incident left people seething against the state government and the Centre - who angrily demanded change and justice.

Google India's search engine's home page has been adorned with a small candle below the engine bar. When a person moves the cursor on the candle, it shows the words, “In memory of the
Delhi braveheart.” People all over the country are shocked, sad and mourning the death of the girl who desired to live inspite of what happened with her. Housing societies in and around Delhi and NCR region were seen on Saturday and Sunday mourning her untimely death with candles, wreathes of flowers and posters saying that they will not let her death be in vain.
Film personalities also contributed in their own way. While
Shahrukh Khan said that he is ashamed to be a man,
Amitabh Bachchan wrote a poem in memory of the girl, whose is unnamed. Other film personalities such as
Jaya Bachchan,
Hema Malini and Javed Akhtar on Saturday went on a silent march.
Not only in India, Indians in the US, the UK and Australia held candle light vigil for the departed soul. They lit candles and protested against the crime by gathering at the Gandhi Statue in Washington. The same happened in Melbourn, where a group of people gathered in front of the Indian consulate, reported Outlook website. The Times of India also formed a group by the name of Indian Solidarity Group to protest and mourn the day, as truly, it is a sad day for India.
The girl was cremated after she was flown in a special Air India flight from Singapore. Amid tight security, the girl was laid to rest but her mother was hospitalized after the cremation - as she became unconscious. It has been reported that the 23 year old physiotherapy student was to marry the person she was with when she was gang-raped.
