AS PER recent reports, all Google Android devices in the US will be upgraded to the new Android OS 2.1 including the T Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G.
The Android OS 2.1 supports Google Earth, Google Maps with Navigation and the latest enhancements, as well as features like live wallpapers, speech to text support for each text field, updated Gmail client and support for Google Voice.
These reports are contrary to certain earlier ones which had suggested that the Android OS 2.1 would not run on T Mobile G1 because its hardware cannot support many of the Google Android OS features.
Some users believe that this update would actually be a nuisance for them, as the new operating system would require a full wipe of their handset memory. They may also not get all the new features, but just the core operating system update.
The update process to Android OS 2.1 may begin by the second quarter of 2010 and would likely require a desktop app from phones, so as to synchronise details such as contacts, SMSes, emails, settings and applications. and synchronise all phone contacts, SMS messages, emails, settings and applications before the wipe so the information can all be added again once 2.1 has installed.
Google has neither confirmed nor denied these reports till now.
