Google announced its new Android version, Android 2.2 or Froyo on the Nexus One. Froyo will be available as an update for Motorola Droid users and those with Nexus one smartphones from June.
AT THE ongoing Google I/O conference, the search engine giant announced another treat for its users - this time targetting its smartphone segment. Google announced its new Android version, Android 2.2 or Froyo on the Nexus One. Froyo will be available as an update for Motorola Droid users and those with Nexus one smartphones from June.
The Google Android 2.2 update promises faster performance for Nexus one and Motorola Droid devices, apart from Flash 10.1 support. The fact that the Flash support has been picked up by this version in contrast to Apple's decision to say no to the Adobe software entirely, hasn't been missed by many.
According to those reporters present at the Google I/O conference in San Fransisco, who tried their hand at Google Froyo, the full Flash support on the Android software had really made its mark, with superb video playback quality. Games run on the device were reportedly fast too, like flash run Farmville, but some other websites were described as "painfully slow" in loading.
Several flash websites are recommended with the Android 2.2 Froyo, from a shortcut available on the homescreen, like South Park Studios, BBC, Sony Pictures, Armor Games and more. However, popylar video sharing platform Hulu, can't be accessed properly, though not for poor Flash conversion reasons. According to Adobe, Hulu does not have distribution rights to content and so it can't be streamed onto the smartphone.
Further, Android 2.2 Froyo, offers a changed homescreen, with shortcuts to dialler app, app menu and the browser. The faster performance is a given for the smartphone itself, but there is also Wi-Fi and tethering available.
