Google celebrates Miriam Makeba's birthday with a doodle
Google's homepage commemorates the birthday (March 4) of Miriam Makeba (1932 - 2008), a Grammy award-winning South African singer and civil rights campaigner with a doodle. She is best known for her most popular song 'Pata Pata' that had become a craze all over the world.

The passport of activist Makeba, popularly known as Mama Africa, was cancelled by the apartheid South African government to prevent her return to the country after her overseas performances. She actively campaigned against the South Africa’s apartheid regime. She returned to South Africa in 1990 after the release of Nelson Mandela.
