Google celebrates Mother's Day with a simple and striking Doodle
Today, Mother's Day is being observed in many countries including India to honour motherhood and celebrate the contribution of mothers to the society. To mark the occasion, the internet search engine giant Google has put up a doodle on its homepage to solute motherhood.

The doodle depicts two pairs of footwear, one of a mother and the other of a child, to represent the affectionate bond between a mother and her child. However, the concept of motherhood is also related the nurturing cutting across genders and social relationships to include mothers, mother like figures and motherly persons who provide nurturance.

In India, mother is held in high esteem and considered to be the first teacher of the child. In some cultures, mother is treated like a goddess to be revered, respected and adored.

But, modern notion of Mother's Day that began in 20th century was popularised by Anna Jarvis in the US to be observed on second Sunday of May. Over the years, the celebration of the day has been commercialized by purchasing and presenting mothers bouquets, flowers, cakes, cards and other gift items.
