Google doodle pays tribute to Finnish journalist, writer and social activist Minna Canth on her birth anniversary
The internet search engine giant Google has paid tribute to Minna Canth - a Finnish journalist, writer and social activist – with a sketch doodle on its home page. It is Canth's birth anniversary today.

It is said that Canth had begun to write while managing her family draper's shop and living as a widow raising seven children is an inspiring story for any women who can fight adversary through self-effort.

Born on 19th March in 1844 at Tampere in Finland, despite all odds, Canth rose to become a self-made person of many parts, through striving and working hard. She combined her shop keeping with journalism, writing work, women rights campaigns and social activism.

She became well known owning to her writings based on women's issues and their empowerment. Her birthday today is being celebrated as a Flag Day in Finland for her contribution towards social and gender equality.

The Google doodle of today shows a sketch of Minna Canth with some books, a pencil, a pair of scissors, and the sign for gender equality indicating the areas of her contribution.
