Google honours Actor Raj Kapoor with a doodle on his 90th birth anniversary
Google home page has paid tributes to legendary Indian film actor Raj Kapoor on his 90th birth anniversary today, December 14. The doodle depicts Raj Kapoor's role as Raj in Shree 420 with actress Nargis with him in the background. The film was a global hit and made Raj Kapoor a popular face of Indian cinema in Asia. It has been acknowledged that Raj's films attracted worldwide audiences and appreciation, particularly in Asia and Europe. He was also known as Clark Gable of the Indian film industry.
It may be recalled that Raj Kapoor died in 1988 at the age of 63 due to ill-health when he collapsed during the Dadasaheb Phalke award event. He had to, and was rushed to the hospital and died a month later. He had also received the Padma Bhushan decoration in 1971. He was appreciated both by film critics and movie fans who called him him the "Charlie Chaplin of Indian cinema," because of his portrayal of tramp-like character in some of his movies.


Raj Kapoor (1924 ? 1988), was popularly known "The Show Man" becuase of acting and film launching styles as actor, producer and director of Hindi cinema. According to a Wikipedia post, Raj Kapoor was the winner of two National Film Awards and nine Filmfare Awards in India, and a two-time nominee for the Palme d'Or grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his films Awaara (1951) and Boot Polish (1954). Furthermore, Raj's performance in Awaara was ranked as one of the top ten greatest performances of all time by the Time magazine.
