Google honours Indian theater artist and reformer Kamaladevi on her 115th birth anniversary with a sketch doodle
The internet search engine giant Google today on its home page honoured noted Indian theater artist Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay with a sketch doodle on her 115th birth anniversary.

In the logo of the search engine, second 'g' has been replaced by the sketch of Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay. The foreground of the Google logo shows the sketches of musicians and performers.

Kamaladevi was born in Karnataka's Mangalore city on April 3, 1903. Her father, Ananthaya Dhareshwar was Mangalore's District Collector, while her well educated mother Girijabai was from a highly respected and well known family of the state.

She excelled in theater arts and enthralled audience with her performances. She performed throughout the country and got noticed as a lead performer of her times.

Besides theater she took part in social reforming, freedom fighting and women development activities. She also played an important role in creation of institutions such as the National School of Drama, Sangeet Natak Academy and Crafts Council of India.

Her work was widely recognised and she received Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Ramon Magsaysay awards.

She wrote a few books also and performed in two movies. She died on 29 October in 1988 leaving behind a great legacy.
