Google marks Meena Kumari's 85th Birthday with a sketch doodle
Google celebrates Indian film actress Meena Kumari's 85th birth anniversary with a sketch doodle. Meena Kumari (1 August 1933– 31 March 1972) is also known as the tragedy queen of Bollywood. Google conveys on its website, "Janmadin Mubarak Meena Kumari!"

She was born as Mahjabeen Bano, who made a mark in Hindi cinema as actress, singer and poet under the pseudonym 'Naaz' with a career spanning 33 years.

She started her film career at the age of 4 and performed in about 92 films. Some of her noteworthy films are Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Pakeezah, Mere Apne, Aarti, Baiju Bawra, Parineeta, Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, Foot Path, Dil Ek Mandir and Kaajal.

Google writes on its website, "As shown in today's Doodle, Kumari captivated audiences with her beautiful, expressive eyes. Appearing in more than 90 films during her 38-year-long career, she portrayed strong yet vulnerable women who made their own way through life, although they were often devastated by romance.

"Leading men were so bedazzled by Meena's presence that Bollywood star Raj Kumar admitted to flubbing his lines when shooting scenes with her. Today, her screen appearances are studied for flawless moments and the complex emotions she could evoke without uttering a word," it adds.

Google further informs, "In addition to being a talented actress Kumari was also a accomplished poet who recorded an album of her compositions in Urdu titled I Write, I Recite, with music composed by Khayyam. Her legacy as a screen actress in unrivaled in Bollywood history. At India's prestigious Filmfare awards in 1963, Kumari was the only best actress nominee for her performances in three different films."
