Google marks opening of Paralympic Games with animated doodle
The Paralympic Games 2016 will start from today in Rio de Janeiro. The internet search engine giant Google has marked the occasion with an animated doodle showing the sports in which disabled athletes will be taking part.
The Paralympic Games began in 1948 modestly but have grown into the world's largest sporting event for people and athletes with disabilities.

In 1960, the Paralympics were for the first time held in the same year as the Olympic Games.

According to organisers of the Games, this year around 4,300 athletes from 161 countries will be participating in different sporting events. In all, more than 500 events will be taking place.

However, this year, a financial crunch has been felt on the Paralympic Games but with the support of the Brazil's federal government the Games are expected to be a huge success.

The Paralympic Games will continue till September 18.
