Google marks social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy's 246th birthday with a sketch doodle
The internet search engine and technology giant celebrates Raja Ram Mohan Roy's 246th birthday with a sketch doodle. The doodle has been designed by Toronto-based combo pack UX designer Beena Mistry, informs the Google doodle blog.

Because of his crusade for social and educational reforms, Roy is also known as the 'maker of modern India' by historians. He campaigned against social evils like sati, widow torturing, rituals, purdah system and child marriage relentlessly and got them abolished.

The sketch doodle on the homepage of Google has the logo the search engine on the top with a black background. Raja Rammohan Roy has been shown below the logo surrounded by his followers on the two sides. The sides of the doodle have been framed by the twigs.

Because of his support for free speech and expression as well as vernacular press, he is also deemed as the 'Pioneer of Indian Journalism'. He also worked for modernization of the education system by establishing Koltaka-based Presidency University which was earlier known as the Hindu College. He also started the Anglo-Vedic school as an education reform on modern lines.
