GOOGLE IS back to old selling strategy, at least in case of Nexus One. It will close an online store that it setup to sell its Nexus One Smartphone. Google will now rely on old traditional retail selling nexus to sell its recently launched Nexus One.
This shift in Google’s strategy jeopardized their attempt to develop alternative sales model for the mobile industry. As per plan, Google hoped to shake up the existing model by its online store as the only place to buy the NexusOne.
In Google’s word, the ‘super phone’ launched in January didn’t catch consumers imagination, the idea of buying phone without any hands-on-experience failed. “As with every innovation, some parts worked better than others, “Andy Rubin, a Google executive, wrote in a Friday Blog post. Rubin said Google will stop selling the Nexus One in its website as soon as it has lines up other US retailers to carry the device. Google did not disclose the sales figure of the Nexus One. Many smart phones use Google’s free Android operating system. The sale through normal retail channel is not going to cakewalk for Google. Two major carriers, Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. recently decided not to support the Nexus One because they prefer other Android-powered developers.
