Google welcomes equinox with a sketch doodle to mark beginning of spring
Internet search engine and technology giant Google welcomed March 20, with a doodle for both the Northern and Southern hemispheres which are experiencing an equal amount of daylight this day.

In other words, it is beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and start of fall in the Southern Hemisphere.

The doodle shows an image of a flower blooming on the Earth with the sunlight falling on it.

For those in the Northern Hemisphere, it marks the beginning of spring, with daylight hours continuing to lengthen till June. The celestial event also marks the start of spring festivals in many cultures such as Holi in India.

Astronomically, an equinox is the time instance when the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun due to its solar orbital motion.  One can also say that on this day, the center of the visible Sun is directly above the Equator.

At the instance of the equinox, we experience day and night of equal time length, almost 12 hours each.
