Goons assault my brother and father: Is anybody listening?
Unbelievable things are happening in the land of saints. Uttar Pradesh is becoming a hot spot for goons and local dons nowadays. As police take a nap Uttar Pradesh, the law and order situation is going from bad to worse.

I feel sorry at the present state of affairs in the state. I had a lot of hope from the new Chief Minister not only regarding the development but in all fields. But unfortunately he is not fulfilling the desire of millions of people in the state. He is nowhere near the expectations of common people.

I didn’t want to write this article, but I am forced to write it as my family is suffering due to bad law and order situation in the state. At present, my aged parents, and sisters are living in my hometown in Uttar Pradesh. In December last year, one of my brothers, who is pursuing MS (Tech.) from a reputed university in the country, along with my father was assaulted by local goons very badly. The condition of my brother was very bad and he had to undergo an operation at a hospital in Raebareli for severe head injury.

The police initially had filed an FIR on the request of my family and later on filed a charge-sheet in the case. The case is pending in the court. The accused first tried to quash the case in High Court claiming that the case was false. But the High Court rejected their plea on merit.

The court had set Tuesday, 02 April 2013 as the date for hearing and after my father went there he came to know that the next hearing would take place on 14 May 2013. En-route to the court, he was assaulted by somebody, but he couldn’t recognize him.

I doubt the accused might have got somebody to carry out the assault so that my father withdraws the case out of fear. The problem is people who almost murdered my younger brother four months back are roaming freely even after being booked under IPC 308 and other sections of the IPC.

My father was so scared after being assaulted inside the court premises that he failed to lodge any official complaint. He is 63-year-old person and it is but obvious that he would be scared. I don’t know much about criminal cases but people who are involved in such heinous crimes should be taken into custody immediately and justice be done.

What can you expect from such a system where people accused in such crimes are roaming freely on the streets? It is shocking that even after four months of the crime police are not able to do anything. I don’t want to comment on our judicial system. One good citizen of the country could have been dead by now if proper medical treatment wasn’t provided to him in time. That medical treatment was not provided by any government authority but we managed to pull it off in a private hospital because there are not proper facilities in district hospitals.

My simple question to all Merinews readers is how I should proceed with this case? Should I wait for justice in such a flawed system or leave my job and start doing rounds in courts and police stations?

I am really worried about the safety of my parents and rest of the family. I cannot live in a state where the safety of my family is compromised.  There are so many discussions taking place on the murder of D.S.P. Zia-ul-Haq, which is a good sign, but what about common men like us. Who is going to take care of common man?
