Gorakhpur is getting back its crime city status
In the 80s Gorakhpur city in Uttar Pradesh had the status of being a crime city. Mafia war was at its peak. But now after 30 years Gorakhpur is again struggling to get rid rid of this status.

IN THE last two months more than 10 people have been killed, 8 houses were attacked by robbers, more than 5 businessmen were looted, and there have been incidents of chain snatching. Such cases are no longer make news.

As if this was not enough criminals turned contractors have destroyed the office door of the City Magistrate while the local police was beaten by road-side shop keepers.

SP-City Paresh Pandey built his image as "TEJ-Tarrar" police wala, and he may solve many cases but he and his team are not doing enough to build fear of police among criminals.

Gorakhpur, which is in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, used to be called as the land of gang wars, and was even given the title of 'Chicago of the East' by BBC Radio. These gang wars were usually conducted between Virendra Pratap Shahi and Harishanker Tiwari but after Shahi was killed in Lucknow, there was some respite from crime in Goraphkpur. But given how things are getting back to the bad old days in the city, Gorakhpur is again getting a bad name.
