INDIAN SPORTS Ministry has allocated Rs 258.39 crore for the preparation of Indian athletes for the London Olympics 2012 under "Project Opex 2012." In March this year, the government announced the launch of Operation Excellence (OPEX) "Project Opex 2012."

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Ajay Makan, said for the period April, 2011 to August, 2012 the government has allotted the budget of Rs. 258.39 crore for lodging, nutrition and scientific support, and daily allowance, etc.
Union Sports Minister Ajay Makan also said that a total of 28 foreign coaches have been selected for the preparation of London Olympics. Indian coaches as well as foreign coaches will help athletes to prepare for the general and specific physical fitness, skills and tactics, and the strategic planning for qualifying tournaments.
Makan also informed that the national coaching camp and the international exposure have been started in all the disciplines except swimming. He also said that 32 government observers have been appointed to ensure the fair selection of players for international exposures and qualifying competitions.
The Sports Minister also said the ministry is appointing a three-member committee of experts to ensuring best possible nutrition and diet to national athletes. A three-member oversight Committee is also being constituted to check the standards of food and of other infrastructure in the nation camps. For speedy clearance of athletes for training abroad, a special cell in the TEAMS Division in SAI has been created.
India will take part in 16 sports events in London Olympics, which will be taking place from July 27 to August 12, 2012. In 2008 Beijing Olympics, India won one gold and two bronze in shooting, wrestling and boxing event.
