FOR DELHI Chief Minister Shiela Dixit it is easy to raise issues, prices, increase burden on aam aadmi, making new laws for citizens and to improve their manners in the name of Commonwealth Games. CM wants to see Delhi as world-class and eco-friendly city ahead of Games.
However there are laws that need strict implementation before anything else. A ban was imposed on Smoking in October 2008. Yet one can easily find people smoking in public places, restaurants, government buildings and while driving. There are banners and posters at various places to create awareness about the ill-effects of smoking. If the ban was to be imposed in true sense then why not ban the sale/manufacturing including import and export of cigarette/biddi/tobacco.
Government has adopted double standards, it does not want to miss the revenues it earns from those tobacco/cigarettes/bidis units, but expects people not to smoke. I fail to understand the logic behind banning smoking. Delhi government's policies are all based on whims and fancies. A smoker will smoke. If confined to home, it will put his family more at risk.
Delhi Government has imposed fine of five hundred rupees or three months imprisonment, but it is serving no good. Delhi-ites are rule breakers and will never contribute to make Delhi a world class city. The government needs to take some serious actions before its too late.
