The Congress-led party and the other opposition parties were adamant on the demand of debate in the house while accusing that the government had given approval to the meeting. Vaidik had met Hafiz Saeed in Lahore on July 02.
Before this meeting with Saeed, Vaidik in an interview with a Pakistani TV channel on June 30, had said that if people from Indian Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir want then the Kashmir should be given independence.
In Lok Sabha also Sushma Swaraj clearly said that Vaidik had acted in his individual capacity, and that the government had absolutely no role to play in facilitating the trip or the meeting.
A similar statement was made by the finance minister Arun Jaitley in the Rajya Sabha, who said, "This is a diplomatic misadventure of a private citizen. If there is any party that has a clear and strong line on the Kashmir issue that is my party (BJP)."
