Government to mount in-depth study on problems of transgender community
Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has constituted an expert committee to make an in-depth study of the problems being faced by the Transgender Community and suggest suitable measures to ameliorate their conditions, stated an official release.

Along with other experts, four representatives from the Transgender community have been taken on the Committee. Also, a pre-legislative consultation meeting was held with concerned stakeholders including members from Transgender community earlier.

 According to the release, this information was given by Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Rattan Lal Kataria in a written reply in Lok Sabha on July 16. The release has the names of transgender members of the committee along with the organizations they belong to. It may be mentioned that currently Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016, in force.

As we know, In India, despite the laws to protect the rights  for life of dignity and equality, transgender  and other members of LGBT community continue to be marginalized in society.  Though due to their legal rights, they have become more organized and visible, however, the often get  mistreated and harassed due to  deep rooted patriarchal mindset of the Indian society.
