It is however, painful and immensely disconcerting to note that despite the existence of a stringent regulation against practice of sacrificing animals, countless animals are being slaughtered for religious rites across the nation.
WE ARE well aware that sacrificing animals for spiritual reasons as a part of religious ritual is legally forbidden in India.
It is however, quite painful and immensely disconcerting to note that despite the existence of stringent regulation against this practice, countless numbers of different animals like buffaloes, goats, camels, ducks, hens etc are being slaughtered everyday for a range of religious rites across the nation.
It is a subject of shame and disgrace that West Bengal too is no exception to such social wickedness. As for instance, in some of the primary schools of Bankura district, there is the practice of sacrificing animals in front of school children on the occasion of ‘Manasa Puja’ (worship of Manasa, a goddess of Hindus). This practice is performed every year, which without doubt generates an adverse effect into the young minds of school children.
The organisers and arrangers of such ritual are again going to repeat it during the third week of August this year. The local administration is astoundingly silent on the issue.
For the last few years we, the Science and Rationalists’ Association of India have been combating against such brutal activities in school premises.
We are certain that government of India will duly comprehend the severity of the circumstances and will send some kind instruction (s) to the concerned officials to enquire and set off necessary measures towards abolition of such evil practices from places where education is imparted.
