Govt initiative, now file income tax or TDS return at just Rs 250

With an aim to make the experience of Income Tax return filing for small and marginal tax payers more convenient and cost effective, government's Income Tax department has started Tax Return Preparer (TRP) scheme. Under this scheme two initiatives i.e. 'Register for Home Visit' and 'Online Tax Help' have been launched.

A TAXPAYER can avail these facilities on the website www.trpscheme.com. Under the scheme of online tax help a taxpayer can sort out his IT return related problems within 24 hours through email or phone with the help of tax experts trained by the ITdepartment.

However, if someone wants to avail the services of a tax expert at his home then he will have to get registered for a home visit by the expert. Under this scheme a taxpayer needs to indicate the type of help he requires and a convenient date and time when the Tax Return Preparer (TRP) can come to his home to assist him.

The TRPs are allowed to collect fee from the taxpayers as per the TRP notification subject to a maximum of Rs. 250 per return preparation, according to a statement released by the ministry of finance.

The facility for home visit by TRPs has been presently made available in few cities such as Bangalore, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Patna. The facility would be extended to more cities in the next phase.

The TRP scheme call center number 1800-10-23738 may be called for further information regarding these initiatives. This scheme is applicable to individuals and HUF tax payers.
