Govt is interacting with industry to resolve distribution & tax related issues in M&E sector: I&B Minister
With a view to resolve various issues pertaining to distribution, taxes and others in Indian media and entertainment (M&E) industry, the Government is interacting with all sections and stakeholders to exploit the real potential of the M&E industry, Union Information and Broadcasting (I&B) minister, Prakash Javadekar said at an event organised by industry body ASSOCHAM in New Delhi today.
"The mantra for Narendra Modi-led government is 'Delay is out and Decision is in,' as we have been asked to delete the word delay so that we can go ahead together with the industry in a fruitful partnership to develop India?s economy and reach optimum heights to exploit industry's real potential," said Mr Javadekar while inaugurating 'Screens-2014: 8th Annual Summit on Media & Entertainment,' organized by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).

As a Government we are here to facilitate the industry and not to create roadblocks for them," said Mr Javadekar. "Our job is to give impetus to entrepreneurship as I believe in young talent and creativity and India?s ability to create its own niche in the global market."

Talking about the growing aspirations of people in India, the Union I&B minister said that entertainment comes next only to primary needs of food, clothing and shelter. "There is a need for both the Government and the industry to think about the final consumer and welfare of the common citizens and to that end we are the partners and facilitators."

We welcome all the suggestions from the industry and we will continue to hold dialogue and march ahead together to seek justice for the common man," he added.

There is tremendous potential for Indian radio and television to have co-operation from world over and we at the same time can provide significant amount of good content to the global television and radio industry, said the Union I&B Minister.

In his address at the ASSOCHAM Media & Entertainment Summit, Javadekar said there are a whole lot of growth opportunities present in Indian M&E industry. "Our culture and civilization is so great that entire world is fascinated about it, so our cinema is becoming more popular and we have scope to make it further more popular."

Good days are back for India?s M&E industry," said Rajkumar N Dhoot, immediate past-president of ASSOCHAM in his welcome address at the ASSOCHAM seminar.
