Govt must provide six months free ration to farmers: NBP
Manhotra who toured different areas of jammu, rued the majority of the farmers were at the verge of starvation as they have lost their three successive crops due to drought. He asked the government to give six months free ration to the famers.
ALL INDIA President of National Bahujan Party (NBP) K.K. Manhotra has asked the state government to provide immediate relief to the drought affected families of Jammu and Kashmir, He also demanded enhancement the relief already announced by the government in this ragards during a press conference. Supporting demand of some political parties, NBP President strongly demanded the caste base censue should be done so that real picture of the number of weakers section should be emerged in the country. He do not thin anything wrong in conducting caste base census. He argued that it would help the government to formulat comprehensive programmes for the upliftment of socially and economically weaker Section. Expressing satisfaction over appointment of Vice Chairman of other Backward Classes (OBC) Board, NBP President stressed on the need of completely reconstituting the board by appointing members and releasing adequate funds. More than four months have already been passed but on fund has been allotted to the OBC board so far neither members have been appointed”, he observed. He reiterarted his demand that 27 percent reservation should be given to OBC’s in the state on the pattern of the other states of the country. NBP demanded that a local person should be appointed as Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu.”Aspirations of the people of jammu should be taken into consideration while appointing first Vice Chancellor of Central University’ he argued and pointed out that name of one of the local academician Prof. Santokh Ram was already in the panel so there was no reason to deny him tha same post. Prof. Santokh Ram is most capable and deservating candidate for the same post and his name is laso in the panel so authorities should appoint him as Vice Chancellor to fulfill aspirations and wishes of the people of Jmamu region he said.NBP also demanded that election of the local bodies and Panchayats should be held as early as possible to strengthen democracy in the state. He said that there was no resson to delay these election.
