Govt school student in MP electrocuted; NHRC issues notice
Taking suo-motu cognizance of a media report that the hands of 10 year old, Nilesh, a student of a Government Middle School were severely burnt after he touched a live wire, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the Secretary, Department of Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh and District Magistrate, Sivani.

The incident happened at Vijaypani village in Sivani district of Madhya Pradesh on the 20th July, 2016 when the student climbed up the roof of the school and touched the live wire passing thereby.

Allegedly, it happened due to the negligence of the school administration. Now, the boy is running the risk of amputation of both his hands due to gangrene.

The NHRC has asked the authorities concerned to submit a detailed report in the matter within four weeks along with the steps taken for the relief and rehabilitation of the victim.

The Commission has also noted and observed that the incident indicates negligence by the Head Master and the teachers of the school who could not notice as to how the victim managed to sneak out of the class room window, climbed up the roof and touched electric line, unseen and unchecked by any staff.

"The callous attitude of the school teachers has put the poor boy to an irrevocable loss violating his human right to life and dignity," the NHRC said in a statement.

According to the media report carried on the 2nd August, 2016, the victim, Nilesh fell unconscious after touching the wire and was brought down by the teachers, on being informed by some students.

He was sent home without providing any first aid. The Head Master was also present in the school when the incident happened. The victim belongs to a poor family. His father works as labourer at a Brick Kiln.
