Govt should ban sale of temple land: Shri Ram Sena, J&K
Accusing Jammu and Kashmir government of adopting "double standards" in protecting places of worship, State President Shri Ram Sena Jammu and Kashmir Rajiv Mahajan today alleged, "It is a shame that religious places of worship which are symbolic of Hindu identity are being annihilated.

Despite protecting temple land and look into restoring and reconstructing destroyed temple complexes in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajiv also asked State Government to take action against those who indulging in illegal sale of temple land in Jammu and Kashmir, which have heritage, cultural and religious significance of the State.

Hundreds of acres of temple lands are sold away leaving temples with little economic basis, he said adding that the State Government and the concerned department, whose duty is to safeguard the temple properties, have turned a blind eye to such encroachments and selling of temple land.

Such looting, massive sale of temple lands, encroachments of temple properties is occurring all over State, he said adding that temple properties have been sold through fraudulent deals by a powerful nexus of self-styled elements and land sharks.

The government, which is supposed to be a protector has become a destroyer of the culture, which threatens the very existence of temples, he alleged.

“If the state is not taking care of your heritage, preserving your religion and traditions, and all the monuments or temples that are meant to uphold your culture, than Shri Ram Sena will come on roads to raise their voice against such illegal sale of temples land.

Mahajan said that despite the State Government’s “verbal assurances” to protect temple properties, nothing is being done to protect them.

He appealed to State Government to bring all temples of Jammu and Kashmir State under the Temple and Shrine Bill and take strict action against those who indulge in sale of temple land.
