Govt to make Aadhar card a mandatory requirement for booking train tickets
Soon, it will be mandatory to provide Aadhar card details for booking train tickets. Reportedly, the rule will be rolled out in December this year. The linking of train ticket with Aadhar card has long been contemplated by the Railway Ministry. However, a final draft on this issue is yet to come.

As per a recent data, over 96 per cent of Indians already have an Aadhaar card. The remaining four per cent would likely get one now.

It would be compulsory to furnish Aadhar card details for both reserved and unreserved ticket booking for both online as well as counter tickets reservation.

This move will tackle the menace of touts in bookings. With this Aadhar linked booking, it would be easier for the authorities to enable direct fund transfer who seek concession under various quotas such as senior citizens, freedom fighters, differently-abled, students and unemployed youths.

At the same time, this move will also practically enable every rail passenger to get insurance now. Previously, the passengers who were booking their tickets online were eligible for insurance.

With Aadhaar cards being made mandatory for booking rail tickets, the government of India is moving one step closer to making life of commuters hassle free.
