Grammy countdown - nominees and latest update
The gala Grammy night on Sunday would begin with a tribute to the late musician Michael Jackson, reportedly being sung by Celine Dion and Usher. Performers for the night include the Dave Matthews Band, Maxwell, Green Day, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga.
WITH THE Grammy Awards 2010, just a day, the buzz on the music awards show including, who will win what, who will show up, red carpet gossip and performances have taken centrestage in most news. The 52nd Grammy Awards, to be held at the Staples Centre, Los Angeles has become much more than a simple mission "to honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position."
The change has come not just in who has been nominated and who isn't but, rather in the complete shift in the kind of music and artists who were showered with the Grammies. There is a change on this end, with artists like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and the Black Eyed Peas making the cut, while Kanye West surpisingly didn't.
Even the promotion medium has changed. While earlier, it was billboards and music charts that told who are the most popular artists and who aren't, this time its social media networks like Twitter and Facebook, viral videos and video sharing platforms like YouTube, that make an artist famous. The truest case for this is the instant fame that Larry Platt recieved for his original number Pants on the Ground.
