Grave injustice done against Urdu and Punjabi languages by associating them with Muslims and Sikhs
Grave injustice has been done to two national languages viz. "Urdu" and "Punjabi" by associating them with Muslims and Sikhs respectively. This is taking a very narrow view of the issue involved.

"Urdu" is not a language of Muslims only. It is the language of all Indians irrespective of their religion and has been developed by taking vocabulary from Persian, Turkish, Arabic, Punjabi, Braj Bhasha, Awadhi, etc. with a Hindi grammatical structure but written in Persian script.

A number of non-Muslims like Munshi Prem Chand, Rajinder Singh Bedi, Krishan Chander, all novelists and short story writers and Raghupat Sahai "Firaq" Gorakhpuri, Jagan Nath "Azad", Sampooran Singh "Gulzar", all poets, have contributed richly to this language.

It is very rich in poetry, literature and all other forms of writing. It has been badly neglected over the years ever since the country attained independence and should be promoted so that all lovers of this beautiful language irrespective of their religion could enjoy it.

Similarly, Punjabi is certainly not the language of Sikhs only but is the language of all the Punjabis irrespective of their religion. Non-Sikhs like Sheikh Farid, Baba Bule Shah, Khwaja Ghulam Farid, Ahmed Rahi, Lala Dhani Ram "Chatrik", Lala Kripa Sagar, etc. have contributed richly to the development of this language.

It is a very sweet language and is very rich in its poetry. It is the official language of the Punjab State, which is a Sikh majority state. However, it should not be neglected in States other than Punjab but should be promoted in neighbouring Hindu majority States like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, UP, etc. which have a sizeable Punjabi population.
