After Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna did not agree to partner Leander Paes in the London Olympics, the AITA has their wok cut out, as they have to announce the team today that would finally be heading for the Olympics. What decision will the AITA take?
INDIAN TENNIS is in a tizzy after the AITA announced last week that Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi would be the Indian pair for London Olympics 2012. Mahesh stated that he would not play alongside Leander. Mahesh wants to partner Rohan Bopanna. The latter also said that he would not pair up with Leander.
The AITA needs to make its decision today. Any pairing is possible. It might so happen that Leander might play with a low-ranked player and Mahesh and Rohan would be the second team for the Olympics. But, the first case does not seem to work out after Leander Paes threatened to opt out of Olympics, if he will be asked to partner some other players who were ranked very low (207/306) on the circuit, reported The Times of India. The second case might not materialize, as the AITA is not eager to send two different Indian teams. They want to send the best Indian team. So are we not going to send any team to the Olympics? The world would be laughing at us, if there is no Indian team for the doubles competition during the Olympics.
