Greatest upset in Wimbledon history: Lukas Rosol defeats Nadal
Lukas Rosol suddenly rose to fame after his victory against Rafael Nadal in the second round of the ongoing Wimbledon championship. It is one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon history.

RAFAEL NADAL has been knocked out of the Wimbledon Championships. It is the greatest upset of the modern era, if not Wimbledon history. It is a huge setback not only for the player but also for the tournament, as he is a crowd puller too. He lost the match, which went into five sets against Lukas Rosol, a Czech player. The score read 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in favour of the Czech player during the second round.

We hardly get to see Nadal exiting out of Grand Slams so early in the competition. We are not acquainted to it. Five setters have normally been Nadal's forte, even when he played against players like Federer, Djokovic etc. But, it was not the case when he played against the Czech player.

The game would be remembered for the way Rosol made the Spaniard run around the court. He had a very powerful game to oust the Spaniard out of the competition. He hit a total of 22 aces and had violent groundstrokes, reported Associated Press. It was this aggression and powerful groundstrokes shown by the Czech player on the court that led to Nadal's downfall. During the process, Rosol also became the lowest ranked player to defeat the two- time Wimbledon champion.

The Spaniard took the defeat in a positive manner possible. He said that it is only a Tennis match and not a tragedy. The player has always been one of the most respected players in the circuit and such kind of statements just substantiates the point. Twitter has been going abuzz about Nadal's exit. Chris Stratford tweeted, “Note to all sportsmen: watch how Nadal took defeat. Inwardly digest. Repeat at all times”.

With this defeat, it is sure that the Czech would surely pose a threat in the future rounds of the competition. His confidence level must have sky rocketed. So, the major title contenders have been reduced to primarily three players, Djokovic, Federer and Murray. Who among them will take full advantage of Nadal's loss?
