Greenpeace India has launched its free online petition website to allow anyone to initiate, run and win campaigns related to local issues affecting the community. Having campaigned since the last 12 years in India on environmental issues, the organization hopes that the site will empower individuals to lead social and environmental change.
Greenpeace India has a track record of campaigning on issues such as promoting sustainable agriculture, stopping climate change, and campaigning against nuclear energy and promoting the use of sustainable energy. Greenpeace Extra (GPx) or greenpeacex.in is intended to help people to campaign for solutions in these areas.

The website will not work in isolation. Featured campaigns on GPx will be provided necessary resources and strategy to create more impact. The online platform also provides training in campaigning.
Already, the online petition platform has been put to good use. Umang Choudary an activist from Jharkhand began a petition on GPx with the objective of holding a company accountable for illegally dumping toxic waste in his village. His efforts, along with support of locals, has forced the company to stop the illegal dumping of toxic waste, and a local order is pending in the matter of compensation from the company for damages caused.
Priority will be given to environmental campaigns initiated on the website. If a campaign has potential and is critical, it will be pushed through a team of online Greenpeace India volunteers and through Greenpeace India’s social media networks.
