Greg Chappell regrets fall out with Sachin Tendulkar
Greg Chappell's recent autobiography, 'Fierce focus' has brought various aspects into the limelight during his stint as the coach of the Indian cricket team.
GREG CHAPPELL, in his recent autobiography, ‘fierce focus’, has come into the forefront for various reasons, especially his attack on Indian players like Sourav Ganguly. The book is not all about criticising Indian players, as he has showered praise for the present Indian captain too, MS Dhoni. As reported by PTI, Greg Chappell has written about his biggest regret, which he feels is the fall out with Sachin Tendulkar. Chappell has mentioned that he was not able to communicate with him properly too.
One has to wonder for what reason was Greg Chappell selected as the coach of the Indian cricket team. Through his book, one comes to know the various things that had taken place inside the dressing room and also the atmosphere within the Indian team. It reflects that the Indian team was not comfortable with Greg Chappell as their coach, due to the treatment meted out to them. Greg Chappell only remained as India’s coach between 2005- 2007 season.
Once, it has been said that top players such as Sehwag and Sachin had also been called upon by the coach and asked more from the players to which both of them were surprised. These players have always been the ones who have been giving their best as far as their performance is concerned. One could understand what these players must have gone through, when these players were questioned.
In the book he has publicly admitted that he made some mistakes, as he has compared his cricketing career with that of his coaching stint with the Indian team. As seen during his stint, he had fallen apart with the senior pros of the Indian cricket. After Greg Chappell resigned as the Indian coach, one of the senior bowlers Zaheer Khan had talked about the disturbing times, when Greg was the coach of the Indian team. They were not enjoying the atmosphere in the dressing room, when he was around.
He was a person who tried to bring in his own set of rules and regulations, which did not go well with many. He never tried to understand the cricket culture in India, as to how it works. He wanted to bring in a new approach, which was not easily digested by the cricketers. He wanted to show the players, who is the boss. He always wanted to be the main person in the front row, as it was witnessed in press conferences, where he was the one facing the media trying to get the spotlight.
