Ground Zero worker receives $0.00 as compensation
Edgar Galvis, a Colombian citizen had been roped in to clear the poisonous debris from ground zero. He suffered throat cancer after cleaning up, but he received a check compensation of $0.00, which he thought was a joke.

AFTER THE infamous 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers, a person by the name of Edgar Galvis, who is a Colombian citizen, was being roped in along with many others to clean up the dust, rubble and similar kind of mess at ground zero. It was a risky task for him as he had to remove various kind of debris, which was very poisonous for health.

He was supposed to receive $10,005 for his work, but after various kinds of deduction, he was left with $0.00 for his life threatening job. He never expected this cheque, as he was told in August 2010, that he would be receiving around $5000 after the deduction of all expenses and fees. But, it was not to be.

Edgar Galvis was devastated with the mail, who is now jobless and in debt too. He said that he felt it was a ‘joke’, when he opened the mail.

He used to work for around 16 hours at Ground Zero but he did not take precautions while clearing the debris. He just wore a jumpsuit and a paper mask as a safety measure. He used to earn around $8 per hour, which would add up to $128 per day.

The person is said to have suffered from various kinds of illness such as sinus problems initially and later throat cancer after removing the debris from the World Financial Center. For all his hard work, the fact that he got absolutely nothing for his efforts, is positively shocking.
