Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel resigns, BJP accepts her resignation
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, who took over from Narendra Modi after he became Prime Minister, offered to resign today. She sent her resignation to the BJP high command. Reportedly, the party has accepted her resignation.

In a separate Facebook post, she requested the party leadership that she be relieved from the responsibility as she turns 75 this November. Reportedly,

In the Facebook post she said, "I have been working actively with the BJP for last 30 years and I have got the opportunity to manage several responsibilities the party entrusted on me. I am fortunate to have been offered prime positions and major responsibilities by the party."

She has requested the party leadership to relieve her of the CM's post and said, "This will also give the new leadership time to prepare for the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2017."

The State has been facing extensive Dalit protests after four Dalit youths were brutally beaten for skinning a dead cow. Another Dalit youth committed suicide on Sunday after consuming poison to protest the Una beatings. At least 18 Dalit youth have attempted suicide in the State following the attacks.

Meanwhile, commenting on Patel's resignation, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "This resignation is victory of AAP's fight against corruption in Gujarat."
