Gurgaon citizens witness first-ever LGBT pride parade in the city
Gurgaon held its first-ever LGBT pride parade on Saturday. The moto of the parade was 'repeal of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code' and 'freedom from sexual orientation to ensure social justice and a truly inclusive environment'.

This Queer Pride parade that was held on 25th June, was backed by the organizers of Delhi Queer Pride, who have been successfully organizing pride parades since 2007. However, the initiative of hosting it in Gurgaon was of Puja Bajad, who works for an international NGO.

Puja who has recently shifted to the city said, "I shifted to Gurgaon three months back and I realised that the city has no civic movement, well, except for the Jat agitation if you consider it as one. Also, as a development sector professional, I realised that the city does not have a very organised queer community and no real space for an open dialogue. When I got to know that there hadn't been a Queer Pride Parade in Gurgaon yet, I thought of taking steps towards hosting one."

The slogan, which reverberated on Saturday evening was 'Gurgaon ab door nahin'. Many like-minded people participated in the parade.

Initially a music and open mic session was held and was followed by candle light vigil to show solidarity with Orlando and Mexico massacre victims and the murdered Bangladeshi queer activists.
