Gurgaon encouraged to donate blood this World Blood Donor day
World Health Organization (WHO) commemorates World Blood Donor Day on June 14 annually to highlight the need for timely access to safe blood and save lives. Thus in order to mark the day, a blood donation camp has been organised in DLF Cyber City by SABIC in a bid to encourage people to donate blood on the World Blood Donor Day.
In India, every two seconds, someone needs blood. More than 38,000 blood donations are needed everyday as per the report of Blood donation is an important issue and not a lot is being said on the topic.

The blood donation camp would be a day long event conducted on June 13, 2014 and it is also supported by Rotary International and DLF Foundation. The camp would be equipped with professionals will follow stringent screening procedures and good laboratory practices for collecting, processing and testing blood, as well as carefully document required details of all donors.

Ketan Kanujia, a resident of Gurgaon and a regular blood donor on being asked as to what he feels about donating said, ''You never need a reason to donate blood. A few drops of your blood can save the life of, not necessarily, a friend or relative, but most importantly a human. It’s a divine cause for which we all can participate. Don’t wait for a reason! The need is constant and your contribution can make someone lead a healthy life. Donate blood to bring smile to lives!''

However Sudip Sen of Gurgaon, feels a tad differently about blood donation and the way it is being projected in the society. He says, ''People are yet to take up blood donation seriously. I see it not being promoted enough and these days many people do it for the Facebook selfies and the status quo that comes with the act of 'charity.' Although, it serves the end means, however the focus can shift from the shallow to the actual reason so that people understand the importance of blood donation.''

Whatever be the motivation, everyone, who can, should donate blood. And Gurgaon is being encouraged this week to take action on the World Donor day.
