After the brutal Delhi gang rape shook the country the administration in almost all the states is taking sexual assault cases and crime against women very seriously. In a similar case in Gurgaon, a foreigner was arrested for assaulting his neighbour's wife but was later released on bail.
The 56-year-old Raymond Mark McClenaghan who resides in Gurgaon was arrested by Gurgaon Police late Monday night after his neighbor filed a complaint against him for assaulting his wife. The lady reportedly is wife of a bureaucrat and resides in the posh Golf Course area of the city. Mark had reportedly made obscene remarks and gestures towards her on Monday evening.
Police, already under too much pressure these days, did not take any chance and swiftly registered a complaint and arrested Mark within few hours from his apartment. “The accused was arrested Monday late night under section 294 (b) (obscene acts or songs) of IPC (Indian Penal Code). Early Tuesday McClenaghan was granted bail,” Investigating Officer Balwan Singh was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
Delhi gang rape in which a medical student Damini (not real name) was brutally raped on a moving bus and abandoned along with her friend on the night of 16th December has brought many changes in the way police deals and thinks about crime against women.
