Gurgaon policeman wins 'India Cyber Cop of the Year 2013'
It is a matter of great pride for Gurgaon Police, as Inspector Suresh Kumar was declared the winner of the ‘India Cyber Cop of the Year 2013,' in a ‘DSCI (Data Security Council of India) Excellence Award 2013’ function held at The Grand Hotel, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi yesterday. Inspector Suresh Kumar was felicitated by G.K. Pillai, Former Home Secretary, Govt. of India in the presence of Commissioner of Police and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Gurgaon.
On the occasion, Alok Mittal, CP Gurgaon addressed the participants from corporate and law enforcement segments and briefed about the rising cyber crime and the way Gurgaon Cyber Crime Cell handles it in an effective manner. He also briefed about the challenges being faced by law enforcement agencies while investigating cyber crime cases, mainly late responses from intermediaries.

He also shared his views regarding the efforts made by Gurgaon Police towards educating school children, teachers and parents by organizing 'Cyber Safe Campaigns' in school premises and summer internship of engineering and management students  of various universities of India with cyber crime cell, Gurgaon.

It was for the first time that Haryana Police had submitted nominations for DSCI Excellence Award 2013, related to investigation of the case FIR No. 330/13 u/s 420 IPC & 66C & 66D IT Act, PS, Sadar, Gurgaon. It was a unique case of cheating through net banking and the investigation was conducted by officers of Cyber Crime Cell, Gurgaon.

Despite having no clue of the perpetrator in the beginning, the investigation was conducted in a professional manner and the charge sheet was filed within two months after registration of the case and nabbing the accused. The case had received the national media attention then. Haryana Police was one of the three finalists in the ‘India Cyber Cop of the Year’ along with Karnataka and Kolkata Police.

DSCI in line with the aim of raising the level of security and privacy of IT and BPO service providers, started felicitating ‘DSCI Excellence Awards’ in 2011. The excellence awards are given in mainly two categories - corporate and law enforcement segment. This year DSCI received 65 nominations in the corporate segment, while 14 nominations were for Law Enforcement Agency Segment. The ‘Cyber Cop of the Year’ for law enforcement segment has been added to recognize and honour a police officer who has done the most outstanding investigation in solving a cyber crime case.
