Gurgaon Rapid Metro sees two times surge in passenger count since its launch
Rapid Metro has proven to be a hit with the riders of Gurgaon. The number of passengers are continuously rising since the inauguration of the metro rail in Gurgaon. The Metro has witnessed an surge of approximately 5000 passengers every month. The daily commuters have gradually accepted the Rapid Metro as a daily mode of transport as the city was struggling with the connectivity earlier.
Rapid Metro was launched on 14th November, 2013 and since then the rail network has touched the daily ridership of 20,000 commuters. The concerned authorities are presuming that the daily ridership will be on constant rise and is expected to touch new numbers when the Gateway Tower Station is inaugurated which is located at Shankar Chowk.
The station is expected to be open to public in March 2014 and is in close proximity with the Delhi- Gurgaon
Expressway. Currently, the Rapid Metro consists of six stations on the 5.1 km network.
“Our key priority is not only to solve the connectivity issues in the city but to deliver the world class transport system to the citizens of Gurgaon. I am ecstatic with the response we have got in few months and hopefully we will touch the daily ridership to one lakh by the end of the year. Our team is committed to the cause of building sustainable cities”, said Sanjiv Rai, MD and CEO of Rapid Metro according to a report by TOI.
The Rapid Metro has undoubtedly come as a savior for the citizens of Gurgaon and even for those who commute to Gurgaon from Delhi on a regular basis. The commuting has become much easier and people don't have to squabble with the auto drivers now.
